How To Not Let The “New Year” Rush You

Happy New Year!

Am I the only one who feels like the pace of 2018 seemed like five years compacted into one single year? There were so many changes in my life in 2018. I couldn’t keep up. Just like you, I had huge plans for 2018 but things did not go quite as planned. Even though there were a lot of ups and downs, I can honestly say that I grew a ton in 2018. I’m sure that I’m not the only one who feels this way. This past year may have forced all of us to grow up!

As human beings, we tend to want everything to happen “right now” (myself included). But we also know that anything worth having takes time to manifest. My biggest mistake in 2018 was trying to achieve my goals with an unrealistic timeframe.  Instead of thoroughly taking the time to build by planning, I ended up barely accomplishing anything at all because I rushed the process.

Don’t let the new year rush your process. In today’s fast-paced society, we create mental deadlines and then rush to meet them. And if we don’t meet these deadlines, we automatically “fail” in our heads and then proceed to beat ourselves up. But that’s far from the truth. Life is a journey. Everyone’s journey is different. And failure is growth.

Here are three ways to not let the new year rush you.

  1. Stop comparing yourself to others.
  2. Do your best.
  3. Pray.

1. Stop comparing yourself to others. It’s that simple. There is only one you. Focus on being the best you instead.

2. Always do your best.  If you do your best, you’ll never have to worry about the outcome.

3. Pray. Take care of your mental health. Worry and faith can’t exist in the same space. Which one will you choose?

What’s one thing you plan to work on in 2019?
